The Miami Heat is reportedly eyeing Russell Westbrook and could make Goran Dragic the centerpiece of a trade package to offer to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the latest NBA trade rumors suggested.

Westbrook has been the subject of trade rumors since the beginning of the summer after Kevin Durant moved to the Golden State Warriors.

Several NBA analysts reporteldy believe that the Thunder would go on a full rebuild and trade Westbrook after Durant left. But, after extending its point guard to a three-year, $85.7 million contract, it is clear that OKC management wants him to stay and be the team's main man for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, Dragic has been mentioned in recent NBA trade rumors, as Miami is said to be ready to move on to a new era without Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

If the Heat wants to rebuild, or at least re-tool its roster, then it would have to let go of a few of their current key players and Dragic is considered as its most valuable trade asset at the moment.

Incorporating the Slovenian playmaker in any trade package would allow the team to get the best players available in the market, and that is what Miami is projected to do.

CBS Sports reported that the Heat is "keeping a close eye" on Russell's situation in Oklahoma City and is ready to part with their starting point guard Dragic if it means securing the services of the five-time NBA All-Star floor general.

The combination of Russell and center Hassan Whiteside is a good place for the Heat to start its quest of going back to the top of the NBA.

However, Dragic alone will not obtain the approval of the Thunder to make such a deal happen.

Sportsrageous noted that the issue would be about the players Miami is "willing to sacrifice" just to pull off the said trade.

In reality, it might take more than what Miami can offer to convince OKC to let go of its current franchise player.

If the Thunder struggles during the season even with Westbrook around, then expect OKC to look into ways on how to improve its roster, and possibly, at the expense of their franchise point guard.
