Badminton News: Top-Ranked Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia Pulls out of BWF French Open

Badminton's ruling men's singles world No.1 player Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia has withdrawn from the 2016 French Open on Wednesday at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin, Paris.

In the event happening , following his failure to recover from a hamstring muscle injury that he suffered from the recently concluded Denmark Open last week.

According to The New Straits Time, the Malaysian's coach Hendrawan is not so worried about Lee's health. He believed that the withdrawal was the right decision they took as the three-time Olympic Games silver medalist still has three more tournaments to compete to.

"We had already discussed about this on Tuesday but decided to wait and see how Chong Wei was coping todaym" the 44-year-old Indonesian badminton mentor said. "He was already having difficulties moving due to the injury and so we decided to pull him out." 

"There is no point in pushing him to play as that could make things worst," Hendrawan said referring to China Open, Hong Kong Open and World Super Series Final in Dubai.

"He still has three more tournaments to go, it's best he focuses on them," he continued

With the latest development, Lee became the latest addition to the top-ranked shuttlers in the world who will be missing the Paris-based World Super Series badminton event.

Reigning Olympic Games gold medalists Chen Long of China (men's singles winner) and Spain's Carolina Marin (women's singles winner) are also not participating in the said tournament.

Marin is the current BWF women's singles No. 1 and Chen ranks second behind Lee in the latest world ranking result.

The prestigious badminton competition offers qualification points on the road to the upcoming Super Series Finals on December that will be stage in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It has been participated by 354 players from different countries and the event has has a total prize money of US$300,000, basing from the official website of the BWF.
