Under the agreement, Taikong Works will distribute Yellowbird in China via all platforms including cinemas, digital media, and traditional broadcasts, the Animation World Network reported. It will also roll out ancillary rights and promotions alongside the film release.
"Our partnership with TeamTo represents our belief in the massive potential of the Chinese film market, and the opportunity for Chinese investment in the international film industry," Kexin Liu, co-founder of Taikong Works, said.
The maverick deal is the first to come from TeamTo's Beijing office, which was established last June. On the other hand, Taikong Works plans to release the Yellowbird around the Chinese New Year in late January or February, according to the Variety.
Although most of the U.S animation production ventures with China, TeamTo aims to create a global content in its renowned French studios from contents co-produced or originated in China.
The partnership will share the upcoming film's merchandising revenues and are already discussing a potential sequel, which targets to attain the international reach and sales of Taikong Works productions.
"We want to do something that works in China and France, and see how it works elsewhere, which will make a very successful partnership," Guillaume Hellouin, TeamTo's founder and producer, said.
Meanwhile, Yellowbird will cast some of the biggest names in Hollywood including Seth Green, Elliott Gould, Christine Baranski, and Dakota Fanning. The film was sold by Simon Crowe from SC Films International in over 50 markets and was released theatrically in more than 35 nations.
TeamTo is known for its sophisticated CGI animations including Emmy-winning series Angelo Rules, Activision Blizzard's Skylanders Academy, Disney's Elena of Avalor and Sofia the First, to name a few.
