Italian Serie A club Inter Milan is reportedly preparing to submit an offer for Wayne Rooney next summer as the Manchester United legend loses first-team time in England this season, the latest football transfer rumors hinted.

Rooney, 31, is in his 13th year with the club and some believe that his skills are already on the decline.

Included in these non-believers is his current United manager Jose Mourinho, who has elected to play him as a substitute in the Red Devils' recent games.

Although Mourinho admitted that it is "hard" for him to place Rooney on the bench, the Portuguese mentor deemed it necessary for the squad to compete at a high-level. At the moment, Mourinho has world-record transfer signee Paul Pogba taking Rooney's usual no. 10 position on the field.

The Daily Star indicated that Rooney was told to consider leaving the Old Trafford "if he wants to play regular first-team football" and the England and United team captain is reportedly not short of potential suitors waiting for him to become available.

One of the teams interested in signing the Englishman is Inter Milan, which was recently bought by a Chinese group that also owns the Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning FC.

Caught Offside reported that both Inter and Jiangsu are interested in acquiring Rooney and are set to make him the highest-paid footballer in the world if he accepts the offer.

However, Rooney expressed his desire to stay at the Old Trafford for at least until the end of the current season as he wants to win one more Premier League title before he decides on his future in England.

Rooney has been a champion in the English top flight with the Red Devils five times, three straight from 2006-07 to 2008-09 and twice more in 2010-11 and 2012-13. He also won the UEFA Champions League title in 2007-08 also with United.

There have been football transfer rumors and reports which claimed that Inter will submit a bid for Rooney in June next year once the Italian squad appoints a "new manager and pruned their current attack, which includes the likes of Mauro Icardi, Stevan Jovetic, Eder and Gabriel Barbosa".
