The Chinese youngster had to work harder during the first set as Sindhu put on a tough fight before narrowly surrendering the second-round match.

According to ESPN, it was the second tournament following Sindhu's impressive Rio Games campaign that she was eliminated in the early stage of the competition.

Sindhu, who currently ranks No. 10 in the world, suffered an early second-round loss against Japanese Sayaka Sato last week in Odense in this year's edition of Yonex Denmark Open.

He will be facing Chiang Mei Hui of the Chinese Taipei in the next round. The 25-year-old Taiwanese, who ranks No.64 in the world, easily defeated Maria Ulitina of Ukraine in two straight sets, 21-12, 21-9, that lasted for just 26 minutes, according to the official website of the BWF.

In the other second-round matches of the tournament, seventh seed Sun Yun of China won over Sayaka Sato of Japan after a grueling one hour and 20 minutes of badminton action. The Chinese badminton ace scored a 21-14, 17-21, 21-16 triumph against the 25-year-old Japanese female shuttler.

Meanwhile, in the men's singles event, 27th-ranked H.S. Prannoy also failed to advance to the next level of the event ending India's hope of a podium finish after losing to fifth seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in two straight sets 21-19, 21-16 that went on for just 42 minutes.
