Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia got the last laugh against the ruling world No. 1 Angelique Kerber of Germany after avenging her round robin lost in a sweet and spectacular fashion in Singapore.

The current world No. 8 Slovakian tennis ace conquered the prestigious BNP Paribas WTA Finals on Sunday following an impressive straight-set 6-3, 6-4 victory in the championship round of the elite eight-player tennis tournament at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang.

"I have no words, coming here for the first time, the biggest tournament of my life," Cibulkova, who wrapped the win in 76 minutes, said after the match. "I still don't know how I won, I put the ball over the net and it went in; it's the happiest moment of my life."

The victory gave the 27-year-old Slovak her very first WTA Finals title and evened her head-to-head match-up record against Kerber to five games each.

Cibulkova, who had only won one of her three round robin matches of the tournament, ousted the Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semifinals to break her way in facing the top-seeded German tennis star, who never tasted a defeat during the earlier stages of the competition.

Basing on the report of The Guardian, Kerber faced Cibulkova in the round robin phase with the Slovak losing in three sets. The Bratislava-native then lost to American Madison Keys before registering her first victory of the tournament against Simona Halep of Romania that paved the way for her to advance to the final four.

"It wasn't easy to go on the court after two losses but I was mentally very strong and I knew I played well in the first two matches, I was just a little bit unlucky," the newly-crowned WTA Finals champion said. "Then at the end I was lucky!"

According to the official website of the WTA, Cibulkova is the first debutante to claim the title at the association's season-ending event since Petra Kvitova in 2011.
