Floyd Mayweather Jr., who improved to 47-0 with a unanimous decision win over Marcos Maidana on Saturday, is now open to take on Manny Pacquiao next year.

At last, the pound-for-pound champ is apparently leaning toward a showdown with the Filipino sluggers as he enters perhaps the final year of his illustrious professional boxing career.

Mayweather was all money in his 12-round welterweight and light middleweight championship rematch against Maidana, as he easily turns the Argentine into his own punching bag inside the ring.

As a result of his boxing savvy and incredible quickness, the Grand Rapids native cruised to an easy 116-111, 116-111 and 115-112 unanimous decision win to up his record to 47-0 - two wins shy of tying the record of the legendary heavyweight champ Rocky Marciano.

With Maidana now out of the equation, the pressing question now in the boxing is who will be next for Money May?

The 37-yer old Mayweather signed a six-fight deal with Showtime Boxing in 2013, and many boxing pundits thought the contract will expire along with his time in the sport.

Miguel Cotto and Amir Khan are viewed as the strongest candidates for Mayweather's event in May, but in a surprising turn of events last Saturday, Money May mentioned of a man many thought he would snub - and it's Pacquiao.

"I'm gonna go and talk to my team and see what the future holds," Mayweather said in the post-fight interview via ESPN. "I don't know who I'm fighting in May but I expect to fight in May.

"Manny Pacquiao needs to focus on the guy in front of him. Once he gets past him, he can look to the future. If the Pacquiao fight presents itself let's make it happen."

After dominating 47 foes throughout his career, the only void left in his resume is a win against his pound-for-pound contemporary in his generation. Fight purse and drug testing disputes denied fans of opportunity to watch Pacquiao vs. Mayweather showdown that the potential fight has turned into a myth over the last few years.

However, with Mayweather's simple gesture of entertaining a Pacquiao fight in the future is simply encouraging. Will it finally be next year? Only Money May can tell.
