The Washington Wizards are reportedly set on keeping Otto Porter Jr. even if the team has not signed him to a contract extension after last Monday's deadline.

Washington, which won its first game this season with a 95-92 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, has decided not to give Porter a long-term extension. The third overall pick of the 2013 draft has been mercurial in his first three years with the Wizards, which said to have led the club to allow him to test the free-agency market next summer, according to CBS Sports.

Porter is coming off a breakthrough season, though, as he averaged career-highs of 11.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.4 steals in 30.3 minutes per game as a first-time starter last season. If he keeps on improving his play then his value will also continue to improve and he may receive huge offers in the next offseason.

Porter is set to become a restricted free agent, which means that Washington will be allowed to match any offer given to the small forward when that time comes.

Wizards team president and general manager Ernie Grunfeld recently said that he already talked with Porter and told him that the team plans to keep him when he hits free-agency next year.

"We had conversations but we want Otto here long-term," said Grunfeld. "We like Otto. We really like what he brings to the table. He's a really good player that meshes well with John (Wall) and Brad (Beal) who like to have the ball in their hands."

"Our intention is in the offseason is to have Otto signed and have him here long-term," he added.

Meanwhile, Porter recently disclosed that he is not worried about the rumors surrounding his contract extension, saying that he lets his agent David Falk "deal with all that."

"I'm just focused on basketball. I let my agent deal with all that," Porter said, via ESPN. "He's going to make it easy on me."
