A Chinese workshop with more than 10 million fake sanitary pads valued at nearly $6 million was busted by Chinese law police recently, according to Xinhua. The workshop had no sterile facilities and the products were being sold around the country. Authorities fear that the counterfeit products may have even left the country.

Police had a similar incident in July and August where, after thorough investigations, they had found notorious hotspots for the production of the fake products.

Investigations showed that the fake sanitary pads were sold in very low prices, roughly three yuan. They were then sold to distributors across the country for four to five yuan. Many small-scale shops sell it for double the original price.

Two suspects, namely Wan and Luo were caught and detained in September according to a report by CCTV. In the report, they added that the criminal business had begun three years ago.

Authorities said that the hygiene of the products were very poor and added that fake sanitary pads were a threat to women's health if used.

Not pleased by their actions, women condemned them and insisted that severe judicial actions be taken against the two culprits.

"We women are already in pain during our periods and you (culprits) produce fake sanitary towels? You are not human. I suggest that you be sentenced to death," said one woman.

Back in 2013, the police were able to seize 19.6 million sanitary napkins. This is after they discovered a criminal network that had been operating in various regions in China.
