HTC has launched its Viveport Arcade program, which aims to open hundreds of virtual reality (VR) gaming arcades.
The new program will pioneer in Taiwan, Europe, and the United States. It will give the public a place to play high-end VR games with budget-friendly rates.
The Taiwanese smartphone maker believes that arcades will help gamers to access VR as it is considered as open and public places such as malls and cafes, Engadget reported. HTC is in talks with internet cafes in China for possible partnerships in creating VR arcades in the country.

HTC opened a 330-square meters Viveland in Taiwan, which is located at the Syntrend Creative Park’s third floor. It features booths with projectors, stereo equipment, sofas and more, according to Slash Gear.
The Viveport Arcade program has over 20 VR titles at launch including “The Brookhaven Experiment,” “Everest VR,” “Zombie Camp,” and “Fruit Ninja VR.”
“From the largest amusement centers to arcade installations at family entertainment locations, virtual reality is clearly becoming the next big draw for entertainment," Rikard Steiber, President of Viveport and SVP of Virtual Reality at HTC, said. "We believe this will be a cornerstone in democratizing access to high-end virtual reality and turning curious consumers into longtime fans.”
HTC arcade place also offers four “theme zones” that go together with the closed booths. Viewers and walk-ins can observe gamers play through the green screen areas, while players will have four options in these four zones: The Walk, Project Cars, Front Defense, and the alien shooter Bounty VR. These zones are considered as “4D” environments, where there are vibrating seats to include realism effect.
As for the price, HTC assures that it will not break the pocket. Gamers can play for an hour in an enclosed arcade booth for only $12 while playing in an open booth for 15 minutes is priced at $6. Each four themed zones cost around $6 per session.
