Trade rumors have emerged that the San Antonio Spurs could replace Pau Gasol with his brother Marc as the elder Gasol is not performing up to expectations especially on the defensive end.

The Spurs are reportedly planning to offer Pau to the Memphis Grizzlies in a one-on-one trade for Marc as the former Los Angeles Laker has failed to complement well with power forward LaMarcus Aldridge in San Antonio, according to Chat Sports Net.

San Antonio has struggled defensively whenever the combination of Gasol and Aldridge is on the floor. Clutch Points reported that the Spurs has been outscored by their opponents by more or less 25 points during the 113 minutes that the two veterans have shared the court.

The two have also combined for only 15.5 rebounds (only 3.2 of which are offensive boards) and 2.0 blocks per game, which is said to be not enough for Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich.

Historically, though, both Gasol and Aldridge are perimeter big men who are most effective when facing the basket and shooting from the outside, which is another reason for the rumored ill-fit between the two.

The two All-Stars were expected to provide San Antonio the same defensive intensity that the team had when retired legend Tim Duncan was still with them, but the team's defense was nowhere near it used to be so far.

Popovich is reportedly concerned about their dipping team defense despite a 5-2 start to the season, which initiated the rumors that a Gasol-for-Gasol deal with the Grizzlies could happen.

Gasol is far from his usual productive self as he is currently averaging career-low numbers of 9.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game. Last season, he averaged 16.5 points, 11.0 boards, 4.1 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game with the Chicago Bulls.

This could be a problem for the Spurs as the Grizzlies may not want the trade to happen as they clearly are on the losing end if Pau will not get back to his old form.
