Microsoft Strikes Partnership Deal With OpenAI

Tech giant Microsoft has announced that it is entering a partnership deal with OpenAI, a non-profit research organization backed by Elon Musk. Microsoft said that it is allowing OpenAI to access the company's virtual machine technology to help in the development of large-scale AI simulation and training exercises.

In a statement acquired by The Verge, OpenAI co-chairman Sam Altman said, "Microsoft is the large tech company most aligned with us in terms of the goal of democratization to AI technology. This is our most important goal."

OpenAI was established in December 2015. It was a joint effort between Tesla's Elon Musk and Y Combinator which was headed by Altman at that time. OpenAI focuses on the development of artificial intelligence which has a long-term positive impact on society.

Many tech analysts agree that the new partnership between OpenAI and Microsoft will be beneficial for both parties. OpenAI is considered as a pool of some of the brightest minds in terms of advance machine intelligence. As a non-profit firm, OpenAI has pledged to share its resources as well as collaborate with other companies and think tanks to promote its goal.

According to Tech Crunch, OpenAI will use Microsoft Azure as the firm's preferred cloud platform to benefit from existing tools like Azure Machine Learning and Azure Batch.

On the other hand, Microsoft Research is a staunch supporter of open-source technologies. This particular division of the tech giant is supportive of all open-source projects and shares its knowledge with those that who are interested.

On a bigger scale, Microsoft is hoping that its newly forged partnership with OpenAI will help the company establish its AI brand that could compete with the likes of Facebook and Google.
