Badminton: China’s Olympic Champion Chen Long Enters the Final Four of the BWF China Open

China's current world No. 2 men's singles badminton player Chen Long successfully made his way to the tournament's final four after an impressive straight-set triumph over the unseeded Ajay Jayaram of India in their quarterfinals showdown at the ongoing BWF Thaihot China Open on Friday in Fuzhou.

The reigning Olympic Games champion defeated the current world No. 23 Indian shuttler with a remarkable 21-15, 21-14 easy win that lasted for just 40 minutes, basing from the tournament results in the official website of the BWF.

Chen, who is appearing on his first competition since winning the Olympic gold medal last August, has not yet dropped a single set since taking on Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia in the opening round of the event. The 27-year-old Chinese badminton star also registered a straight-set win against compatriot and reigning French Open champion Shi Yuqi (21-16, 21-13) during their second round matchup last Thursday.

Basing from the report of the International Business Times, the victory was the two-time world champion's fifth consecutive win over Jayaram, who was India's last hope for a podium finish in the men's singles category of the prestigious USD 700,000 World Superseries Premier event.

The 27-year-old Chen, who has not won a singles title this year aside from winning the Olympic title in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil two months ago, is looking to claim his fourth China Open crown. The native of Shashi District, Jingzhou, has conquered the three-decade-old badminton tourney in the years 2010, 2012, and 2013.

Chen is a multi-titled professional badminton player. He had his international debut in 2007 and has been a member of the National Team of China since 2006.

He holds an impressive 26 career titles under his belt and had been the world's top male shuttler before Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia reclaimed the highest ranking position in the sport of badminton. Chen currently has a career win-loss record of 324-72.
