It was Chen's ninth triumph over the 22-year-old native of Odense in their 10 official matches since the year 2012. Axelsen recorded his lone victory against the elite Chinese shuttler in the semifinal round of the Dubai World SuperSeries Finals last year in the United Arab Emirates.
The reigning Summer Olympic Games men's singles event champion, who entered the tournament as the second-top seeded player, will be facing the fourth seed Dane player Jan O Jorgensen in the final round on Sunday at the Haixia Olympic Sports Center.
Jorgensen earned his ticket to the finals after eliminating Iskandar Zulkarnain of Malaysia in three sets that lasted for almost an hour, basing from the report of the New Strait Times.
The upcoming championship showdown between the two of the top-ranked male shuttlers in the planet will be their 11th official meeting since 2010. Chen enjoys the upper hand in their head-to-head matchup after prevailing over the current world No. 6 Jorgensen in nine occasions.
Jorgensen scored his only victory against the Chinese badminton star in June of 2014 at the BCA Indonesia Open. However, Chen has recorded two successive wins over the 2014 European champion last year, with the native of Hubei, China, beating Jorgensen at the All England Open and at the Dubai World SuperSeries Finals.
