Indian elite badminton player Pusarla Venkata Sindhu entered her way in to the championship round of the ongoing BWF Thaihot China Open after successfully defeating Sung Ji Hyun of the South Korea in their semifinals duel in three hard-fought sets in Fuzhou on Saturday.

Sindhu, who is looking to claim her first World SuperSeries title, dropped the opening set before staging a remarkable run in the next two games to overcome the gallant challenge given by the sixth seeded South Korean shuttler. According to the official website of the BWF, the 2016 Rio Games silver medalist registered a spectacular 11-21, 23-21, 21-19 come from behind victory that lasted for an hour and 24 minutes.

With the win, Sindhu scored her sixth triumph against the current world No. 7 Sung in nine official matches contested since 2014. Aside from moving a victory closer from winning her maiden China Open title, she also has the opportunity of matching what her compatriot Saina Nehwal did in 2014.

Nehwal, who crashes out in the opening round of the competition, was the first Indian female shuttler to won a title in the 30-year-old badminton tournament.

"Hopefully, I can do what Saina did," the current world No. 11 and tournament's seventh seeded Indian player said.

According to The Times of India, Sindhu will be facing the home crowd favorite Sun Yu of China in the title bout. The 22-year-old Chinese badminton ace earned her finals ticket by beating the fifth seed Tai Tzu Ying of the Chinese Taipei in two sets.

Sun is currently ranked No. 9 in the world by the BWF and entered the USD 700,000 badminton tournament as the eighth seed. She most recently finishes as a runner-up in the latest Japan Open last September.

The upcoming championship battle between Sun and Sindhu will be the two top badminton players' six official meetings since 2011 with Sun having the upper hand in their head-to-head matchup record of 3-2.
