Smartphone manufacturer Motorola recently announced that the Moto Z and Moto Z Force models are slated to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat upgrade this week. Moreover, Motorola added that the same two smartphones will also support Google's Daydream virtual reality protocol.
According to CNet, the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force will be the first non-Google phones to be officially certified as Daydream VR-ready.

As of this writing, Google's Daydream View virtual reality headset is exclusive to Pixel-branded phones. With Moto Z and Moto Z Force expected to join the ranks of the Pixel, many tech analysts expect that it will not be long until other flagship Android phones follow suit.
When Google announced its virtual reality platform, the tech giant said that existing Android phones are not ready to support it most likely due to hardware and software restrictions. Regarding the Moto Z and Moto Z Force, the two handsets were launched just after the official debut of the Daydream.
In terms of hardware specs, the two Moto Z phones pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, which should be powerful enough to render immersive virtual reality visuals on the mobile platform, according to Engadget.
Google has yet to officially confirm the recommended software and hardware requirements of its Daydream platform. Although some in the tech community agree that since the Pixel-branded phones are confirmed to support Daydream, other Android phones should at least be on par with their specs in order to support Daydream.
The Android Nougat update is not an assurance that a certain smartphone can run Google Daydream. Google still has the last say whether to certify a smartphone model and allow it to support its virtual reality platform.
