MSI VR One Backpack PCs Hit Market; Base Model Costs $1999

MSI recently released its VR One backpack personal computers designed for virtual reality enthusiasts. Two models were released, the VR One 6RD and the VR One 6RE; both sport the same design and their main differences are the graphics card and storage configuration options.

MSI's VR One backpack PCs are designed to combine mobility with high-end computing specs. At the heart of these beasts are an Intel Core i7 6820HK with four cores, eight threads, and 8MB of cache, according to AnandTech. It has a base clock speed of 2.7GHz and a boost clock speed of 3.6GHz. The processor has a 45W thermal design power.

According to Venture Beat, the high-end VR One 6RE has an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card. It has 2048 stream processors, 128 texture units, 256-bit memory interface, and 8GB of GDDR5 VRAM.

On the other hand, the VR One 6RD has an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 with 1280 stream processors, 80 texture units, 192-bit memory interface, and 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM. Both models have 16GB of DDR4 memory in dual-channel configuration, which can be upgraded up to 32GB.

On the storage aspect, the VR One 6RE has 512GB PCIe SSD, while the VR One 6RD has a 256GB PCIe SSD storage option. Both models run on Windows 10 Pro.

Both the One 6RE and the One 6RD have a single HDMI 2.0 and mDP 1.2 ports; a 3.5mm audio in and a 3.5mm audio ports; and four USB 3.0 ports and one Thunderbolt 3 port. Both models also have external power supply units, and each weighs around 3.6kg.

The basic configuration of the VR One starts at $1999, while the high-end model will cost up to $2299.
