‘The Grand Tour’ Sets Amazon Record for Most Streamed Debut Episode

Amazon said that millions of Amazon Prime subscribers streamed the first episode of the motoring show. The debut episode of "The Grand Tour" was only available to Prime subscribers from from the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, and Austria. Amazon did not provide the exact number of streamers that accessed the debut episode of the series, according to Daily Mail.

Aside from setting the record for most watched debut episode, Amazon said that it was also inundated by a record number of Prime memberships on Friday. With the exception of its annual Prime Day, membership sign-ups due attributed to "The Grand Tour" exceeded all previous records.

In a press release acquired by Fortune, Amazon chief executive officer Jeff Bezos said, "The guys are back, doing what they do best - the chemistry between Jeremy, Richard, and James is what makes The Grand Tour so entertaining."

"The Grand Tour" is presented by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May. The trio were reunited into this new series after Clarkson was fired by the BBC following an altercation with a producer of their previous show, "Top Gear."

Following the trio's exit from "Top Gear," they were eventually picked up by Amazon, which reportedly paid $160 million to entice them into creating a new motoring series for the company's streaming platform.

The second episode of "The Grand Tour" will be streamed on Amazon Prime this Friday.
