Three Australian employees from Crown Resorts have officially been arrested by the Chinese government and are set to be charged over failure to observe China's gambling regulations.

The three are among the 18 individuals who were detained by the Chinese government on suspicion of gambling, according to a statement issued by China's foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang.

"Beijing will handle this case in accordance with the law," said Shuang.

Gambling and any activity that promote it are illegal in the second world power. The Chinese law clearly states that anyone found to be running a gambling house or having gambling as a career choice is at risk of facing a jail-time of nearly three years.

According to ABC news, officials from Australia have met with those arrested and advised them on what they should do. The officials also served as middlemen in communication with their families.

Australia's Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop is quoted saying that they have a good legal team representing them.

"They are in good health, they are all represented by lawyers and we are able to provide advice and support messages from their families," said Julie.

She is also quoted in other news explaining that gambling is one of the areas that have been scrutinized thoroughly by President Xi Jinping's governing body.

Crown Resorts senior executive Jason O' Conor was among those arrested. Of the 18 detained suspects, 15 are yet to confirm their nationalism. However, so far, only one of them has been bailed out.

In a BBC report, the overall head of Crown Resorts is yet to comment with regard to the matter. According to the report, Australian casinos are among the target places to crackdown on corrupt officials
