The New York Yankees on Sunday have reportedly agreed to hire the services of the seven-time All-Star and free-agent Matt Holliday by signing him to a one-year deal, with a value of $13 million to play for the upcoming new season of the Major League Baseball (MLB).
Basing from the report of The Score, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was said to have agreed to give the 2007 National League batting champion the deal as the 49-year-old American baseball executive made his second major move of the winter.

The native of Stillwater, Oklahoma, spent the last eight seasons playing for the National League Central Division team St. Louis Cardinals, where he played almost exclusively in the left field position. Holliday will likely serve as the designated hitter or see time at the first base of the Yankee Global Enterprises-owned professional baseball club.
The 36-year-old Holliday, who debuted in the major leagues in the year 2004, has battled injuries over the past two years and has been limited to just 183 games. The four-time Silver Slugger Award winner missed significant time last season after undergoing thumb surgery.
However, the American baseball player showed plenty of power when he was healthy, hitting .246/.322/.461 with 20 homers and 20 doubles in 110 games.
According to ESPN, Holliday, who is listed 6-foot-4 and weighs 240 pounds, has never been the most graceful outfielder, and late in his stay in the William DeWitt Jr.-owned baseball team, he began to play irregularly at first base. He dropped a soft line drive in Game Two of the 2009 National League Division Series against the Dodgers.
Holliday also previously played for the team of the Colorado Rockies from 2004 to 2008 before being traded to the Oakland Athletics on November 2008. He had a short stint with the A's and was later on traded to the Saint Louis Cardinals on July 2009.
