It could be noted that Rogue One's released date is similar to the approach taken with Star Wars: The Force Awakens that was released on Jan. 9 this year in China, The Hollywood Reporter noted. Although China is poised to take over US as the world's largest market, the Star Wars saga does not have the same nostalgic appeal to the Chinese unlike the rest of the world's die-hard fans.

Although Force Awakens earned as much as $125.4 million, it only landed on the 12th spot of the biggest grossing film in China for 2015. And Disney is trying to make a move to capture the hearts of the Chinese netizens on its latest Rogue One installment by casting two of the country's biggest stars, namely, Jiang Wen, who will play as the blind warrior Chirrut Imwe, and Donnie Yen, who will take the Baze Malbus role as a freelance assassin.

The sci-fi spinoff is directed by Gareth Edwards and set before George Lucas' original 1977 film Star Wars: A News Hope, according to the Deadline. Rogue One's cast is packed with international names such as British actors Felicity Jones and Riz Ahmed, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, and Mexican actor Diego Luna.

Rogue One premiers in Los Angeles on Saturday (Dec. 10) and will hit North American theaters on Dec. 16. It will also open on select international territories on Dec. 14 and 15.
