China's ambitious transit elevated bus (TEB) project that made a grand debut in early August to solve traffic congestion problem is now collecting dust. The mega project now sits idle in the middle of Qinhuangdao city and is ironically blocking traffic.
Local media reported, quoting two old local guards at the project site, that there have been absolutely no activities near the site for over two months. One of the guards claimed that he has not been able to contact his employers.

The ambitious project fell apart reportedly after the main investor, Huayingkailai Ltd, refused to release further funds in a bid to curtail incurring losses.
Huayingkailai operated the TEB project site through its subsidiary firm TEB Technology Limited. It has been reported that the parent company decided to pull the plug on further funding after TEB Limited started facing serious financial issues since mid-November.
An official from TEB Limited told a local media that the site is still being inspected each week, which actually contradicts facts provided by other sources including the two guards at the project site.
The project's official website is also not updated, with its last post dating back to Sept. 15. Furthermore, no one from Huayingkailai and TEB Limited has so far commented on the issue.
Meanwhile, there is no update about the progress of the second test site that includes a 3 kilometer track in Zhoukou city.
The transit elevated bus or straddling bus was inaugurated for a trial test in August with a lot of fanfare and many terming the technology as 'futuristic' that will forever ease the traffic problem across Chinese cities.
Completely operated by electricity, the straddling bus has the capacity to transport at least 300 passengers at a time in its 72ft (21m) long and 25ft wide body.
