Adding another feather to its space achievement, China launched the next generation weather satellite - Fengyun-4 (FY 4) - on late Saturday. The revolutionary satellite was launched from Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan province. It was carried out into the orbit by Long March-3B carrier rocket.

Apart from helping in retrieving critical information such as forecasting and disaster prevention, Fengyun-4 is also expected to help in other complicated functions, including addressing climate change, exploring climate resources, and increasing the capabilities in monitoring ecological environment.
The FY-4 will also lend help in other important areas such as meteorology, water conservancy, agriculture, and environment. Additionally, it will resolutely support mega infrastructure project such as The Silk Road Economic Belt. However, it is not clear how this revolutionary satellite will offer its expertise in this ambitious infrastructure project.
The Fengyun-4 is apparently China's first quantitative remote-sensing satellite in the highest orbit. The satellite's successful launch on Saturday also marked the country's 242nd mission of the long march series of rockets.
In the past, Chinese space agency launched 14 satellites for weather purposes, seven of which are still being operated in the orbit.
Over the years, China has been on an overdrive to achieve coveted place in the "space world." The goal of the Chinese government is to put the Chinese space program on par with the developed nations.
This ambitious goal has been spurred by Chinese President Xi Jinping's personal efforts to take China's space program to the next level. Xi has already assured investment of billions of dollars to the space program.
