Ryan Reynolds had been honored as  "Entertainer of the Year" at the 2016 Critics' Choice Movie Awards, which aired live on A&E from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on Sunday.

The annual awards show, which was hosted this year by his Deadpool co-star T.J. Miller, awarded the best of the best in the cinema industry. Now a week after the CCMA's new partner Entertainment Weekly had announced that it had named the actor as its honoree for the year, the award was formally presented for the first time at the awards cerenomy.

The magazine's editorial director, Jess Cagle, presented the award to Reynolds, who graciously accepted it before he delivered his speech.

"My god, okay. I've got to start by thanking the entire Deadpool team, without whom I would not be standing up here," the actor began, revealing that he had actually been working on the assignment for a whole decade and was inspired to dedicate the award to Make-A-Wish, Toronto's Sick Kids, and two special young fans, considering how his cancer-stricken superhero character had resonated with them and other cancer patients all over the world.

"They didn't lose a battle, but they started a fight and it's up to finish us," Reynolds said. He later went on to joke, which we're sure made Blake Lively laugh, as he closed his speech with, "I also want to thank my wife. And for no reason at all, I suppose my children."

Reynolds also bagged the "Best Actor in a Comedy" award and nominated for "Best Actor in a Comedy Movie" and "Best Actor in an Action Movie," all of which for his role in Deadpool.
