While fans are obviously very excited for their favorite actors and actresses, what about the nominees themselves? Many of them were quick to express mixed emotions of shock, surprise, and gratitude. Some were even glued to the TV as celebrity presenters Anna Kendrick, Don Cheadle, and Laura Dern announced their names with respective categories.

Matt Damon, who was not nominated for a role but for producing the Best Motion Picture - Drama nominee Manchester By The Sea, said in a statement, "Congratulations to our incredible crew and a deep thank you to Kenny Lonergan and the entire cast who poured their hearts and souls into this, and thank you as well to the HFPA for championing a little movie like ours."

Natalie Portman, who had just won the Best Actress award at Sunday night's Critics' Choice Awards for her role in Jackie, also got a Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama nomination for the same role. She said she's "so honored to be recognized," adding, "I had such a beautiful experience making this film with the most wonderful cast and crew, and particularly with our great director, Pablo Larrain, that it feels like icing on the cake to be nominated."

Jessica Chastain, who got the same nomination for her role in Miss Sloane, said, "I'm thrilled to be acknowledged in this talented peer group with such amazing actresses. I would not be here without the brilliant direction of John Madden. Thank you to EuropaCorp for making such a daring film, particularly now, and thank you to the HFPA for this honor."

Hailee Steinfeld (Edge of Seventeen), Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld), and Critics' Choice Award's "Entertainer of the Year" Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), who all got nominated for Best Actor/Actress for their roles, excitedly went on Twitter after hearing about the news.

Veteran actress Nicole Kidman, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Lion, said in a brief statement, "This nomination is even more emotional and I'm more grateful than ever before. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press!"

Hamilton's acclaimed playwright-songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda, whose song How Far I'll Go from the animated movie Moana was nominated for Best Original Song, also expressed thanks in five languages and bid congratulations to his fellow nominees.

On a more serious note, he gushed, "Over two years ago, I was lucky enough to have been given my dream job, writing songs for a Disney animated film, alongside the amazing Opetaia Foa'i & Mark Mancina. Today, for Moana to be recognized for what we created is truly beyond comprehension. 'How Far I'll Go' not only embodies the spirit of our heroine but the central lesson from the film-dream big, listen to your gut, don't give up, never forget where you came from, and one day you might just save the world."

Lily Collins, who bagged a nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical for her role in Rules Don't Apply, shared her candid reaction via an Instagram photo (above) and wrote, "The moment your mom captures you being nominated for your first Golden Globe. Priceless. I still can't breathe. Beyond honored, thankful, and proud. This can't be real!..."

Justin Timberlake's nomination for Best Original Song with Can't Stop The Feeling from the animated movie Trolls, as well as being a father to Jessica Biel's son, seemed to complete his day like no other.

Congratulations to all of you!
