Lena Dunham is receiving backlash after recently admitting in a public audio podcast that she "wishes" she had an abortion.

The two-time Golden Globe Award-winning "Girls" creator and actress, who's an avid supporter of Planned Parenthood and every woman's right to choose, was doing the second season's fifth episode of her podcast "Women of the Hour" when she decided to discuss the topic of abortion.

It is worth noting that Dunham has never been pregnant, although she has been dating the lead guitarist of the band Fun, Jack Antonoff, for four years now. During the podcast, Dunham was admittedly having difficulty trying to understand what it would be like to go through an abortion.

"Something I've thought about a lot is that there is stigma around abortion. We all know that," Dunham said, adding "I always thought that I myself didn't stigmatize abortion. I am an abortion rights activist. It's a huge part of who I am."

Dunham then went on to explain a time when she encountered a young girl who asked her if the actress would like to be part of her project and share her story about abortions. The actress responded by saying, "I haven't had an abortion," and that while she wanted to fight for other women's options so bad, she herself has "never" had an abortion.

That was when she realized that even she was "carrying within myself stigma around this issue," but she felt that it was important that others knew how "unblemished" she was in that area.

Dunham then revealed that her own mom and best friend had abortions, and it made her realize that she herself had "internalized some of what society was throwing at us and I had to put it in the garbage."

"Now I can say that I still haven't had an abortion, but I wish I had," she admitted.

After the podcast, many of her pro-life fans and Twitter users were quick to criticize her "inappropriate" statement. Some pointed out that an abortion is not something that anyone should ever "wish" to go through, especially after countless of women have openly expressed their regret towards their past decisions.
