The Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo rejected a lucrative offer from an unnamed Chinese Super League Club, in what would have been the biggest transfer deal in football history.

This was revealed by Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes in an interview with Sky Sports Italia that was broadcasted on Thursday night.

"From China, they've offered €300m ($315.24 million) to Real Madrid and more than €100m ($105 million) per year to the player," Mendes said. "But money is not everything; the Spanish club is his life."

Mendes, however, refused to reveal the name of the Chinese club.

If Ronaldo had accepted the Chinese offer, it would have broken the transfer record set by Manchester United this summer for buying Juventus player Paul Pogb. The Portuguese national's €300m ($315.24 million) transfer fee is three times more than what the English giant paid for Pogb.

Mendes claimed that since Ronaldo is the best player in the world, it is impossible for him to head to China. He also said that China is a new market and hence can buy lot of players.

Ronaldo had apparently signed a new contract with Madrid last month, extending his commitment to the Spanish giant until 2021. The Portuguese superstar signed the new deal just weeks before winning his fourth Ballon d'Or award.

However, speculations are rife that the contract has a "release clause" that could be easily exploited by the rival clubs.

The news about Ronaldo's Chinese offer comes on the same day when Chinese club, Shanghai Shenua, sealed a blockbuster deal with former Argentinean national Carlos Tevez.

However, Carlos Tevez is not the only big fish lapped by the Chinese Super League. Last week, the Chinese giant Shanghai SIPG snooped away Chelsea midfielder Oscar from Stamford Bridge in a multi -billion dollar deal.

The clubs from Far East have been on a signing spree since summer and are all set to open their cash coffers again in the upcoming January transfer market. Football pundit claim that though signing of big players is continuously raising the profile of Chinese Super league, but the league's quality is still no match to the European leagues.
