Xinjiang Flying Tigers’ Former NBA Player Andray Blatche Claims Player of the Week Honor in the CBA

Former NBA player and Gilas Pilipinas stalwart Andray Blatche of the Xinjiang Flying Tigers was named Asia-basket.com Player of the Week for a spectacular game performance in the last 25th round of the Chinese Basketball Association.

According to EuroBasket, the American-Filipino player had an all-around game performance of 38 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four steals and two blocked shots in ushering Xinjiang to another victory. Blatche registered an 11-15 shooting from the field and went 7-11 from the stripe in their 109-98 win over the Jiangsu Dragons last Wednesday night.

Blatche, who used to play for the Washington Wizards and the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA, is averaging 26.5 points and 11.1 rebounds per game this season. He is the Chinese league's fourth leading player with the most steals per outing, having an impressive average of 2.3 spg.

The victory improved Xinjiang's win-loss record to a better 20-5 card and currently sits on the third spot of the team standing. The Flying Tigers are just a game behind from the table leaders Guangdong Southern Tigers and Shanghai Sharks, who are tied on the top spot with a 21-4 win-loss card.

According to the NBA's official website, in the league's 2013-2014, Blatche is averaging 10.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. He was a 47.6 percent field goal shooter and rates 74.2 percent dependable from the foul line.

The 30-year-old native of Syracuse, New York, became an essential part of the Philippine men's national basketball squad, the Gilas Pilipinas, as its naturalized player for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup that was staged in Spain. Blatche helped the Philippines to claim its first World Cup win after 40 years by beating the national team of Senegal 81-79 in an overtime game.

Blatche also guided Gilas in its 2015 FIBA Asia Championship runner-up finish that was held in China with the host country winning the tournament title and the slot to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
