CDC Encourages People to Get Flu Shots

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that it is not too late to take a flu shot now. The center revealed that although there is a slow yet steady increase of flu cases from November to December last year, the numbers are expected to increase.
The CDC is very active in tracking people having flu-like illnesses visiting their doctors. They have discovered that the rate of patients who are looking for cure is getting higher than the usual.

Amesh A. Adalja,M.D., Assistant Professor University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and board-certified infectious disease specialist, said, “When we see a flu season dominated by H3N2, it tends to be more severe,” adding that she has witnessed more flu hospitalizations as well as deaths, which is alarming.
She explained that such condition happens because this flu season influenza A, also known as H3N2, dominates and it is a more serious or worse type of a flu, Self reported.
The CDC said that influenza viruses have four types: A, B, C, and D. The A and B viruses are seasonal epidemics in United States, while influenza C primarily causes mild respiratory illness. On the other hand, influenza type D virus do not infect people but affect cattle instead.
Dr. Brandon Bloxham, Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, said, "If you are exposed to someone who has influenza make sure to frequently wash your hands.” Using hand sanitizer and other things that sterilize your hands is recommended to avoid contamination.
Flu is spreading fast in places with many people like schools, nursing homes, and work places. He encouraged people to always practice good health habits like covering mouth when coughing or staying away from person who is sick to prevent from acquiring the infection, Local News 8 reported.
