Manchester United's veteran midfielder Ashley Young is reportedly contemplating a move to the Chinese Super League this January after growing "frustrated" with his lack of first-team time in Jose Mourinho's rotation this season.

Young, 31, has been with United since the 2011-2012 season. The Englishman was acquired from then Premier League squad Aston Villa in June of 2011 for an estimated transfer fee between $18.5 million to $24.7 million.

In five-and-a-half seasons so far at the Old Trafford, Young has appeared in a total of 150 games in all competitions and has scored 14 times playing mainly as a defensive midfielder. He had 38 goals in 190 appearances playing in five seasons for Aston Villa prior to joining United.

This season, the England international has only appeared in five out of 21 games so far in the English top-flight for the Red Devils with zero goals to his name.

Young has reportedly become "frustrated" with his lack of playing time under Mourinho. He is now "seriously considering" a move to CSL club Shandong Luneng if his status does not improve soon, according to 90min.

Mourinho, who took over as United head coach last summer, has only utilized Young as a starter twice this season. Young was also played out of his natural midfield position, as a right-back, during both times.

Young's contract with United will expire at the end of the 2017-2018 season but there are still no indications that the Manchester outfit is planning to give him an extension. With his future clouded in doubt, Shandong reportedly wants to take advantage and lure him to the China top-flight before the winter transfer window closes at the end of this month.

The Mirror reported that United wants £10 million ($12.3 million) for Young's transfer while Shandong is willing to give the midfielder a net salary of £16 million ($19.7 million) in three years. Young currently earns about £6 million ($7.4 million) per year with United.
