According to Wang Jiping, the production of Mi Notebook Air2 will start in April. He also added that the laptop will feature the same thin metal build as its predecessor and it may be lighter because the chassis will be sporting a higher lithium-magnesium alloy, bringing down the weight of the device to just a quarter of an aluminum alloy. The chassis is made of exotic material and will be exclusively produced by a China-based joint venture established by Taiwan-based thermal management solution provider TaiSol Electronics and Japanese company ShinSho.
In addition, it will be manufactured in a more cost-effective way compared to the first generation of Mi Notebook Air. However, it is not guaranteed that it will be cheaper than the current model.
Detailed specifications of the new Mi Notebook Air 2 but it is expected to be more powerful and power efficient than its predecessor. Xiaomi has sold 111,000 Mi Notebook Air during 2016’s third quarter and it was fairly impressive for a debut, paving away to the development of second generation version of the laptop.
Currently, the Mi Notebook Air has two variants: 12.5-inch and 13.3-inch displays. It features Intel Core M3 processor and Intel i7 processors respectively. Both laptops feature Type-C ports.
