"I didn't play that well today because Venus was really aggressive, she really attacked the ball," Duan, who currently ranks No. 87 in the latest world ranking result of the WTA, said in an interview after the match, adding she was "a little bit nervous throughout the match because it was a big court."

The match was played on the 1987-built Margaret Court Arena, which has a seating capacity of 7,500. The arena is the third largest capacity venue of the tournament, behind the 15,000 seating capacity of the Rod Laver Arena (centre court) and the 10,500 seat of the Hisense Arena.

According to ESPN, the 36-year-old Williams, who presently owns the 17th spot in the WTA's newest world rankings, only needed 59 minutes to wrap up the match with a victory and earned her ticket to the Melbourne-based tennis tournament's Round of 16. The 13th seeded player will next play 26-year-old Mona Barthel of the Germany, a match that could vault her into the ninth Australian Open quarterfinal of her tennis career.

Barthel defeated home crowd favorite Ashleigh Barty in three sets at the Rod Laver Arena.

Duan's exit in the women's singles event ends a mixed day for China after the Chinese duo of Peng Shuai and Zheng Saisai moved into the third round, while the pairing of Zhang Shuai of China and Australian Samantha Stosur went home in straight sets.
