The Boston Celtics turned down a trade offer from the New York Knicks involving Carmelo Anthony, according to the latest trade rumors.

Anthony, 32, has been the subject of a lot of trade speculations these days after he told the media earlier this month that he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause if the Knicks organization believes that he is no longer a part of their plans for the future.

Earlier this week, reports went out that the Cleveland Cavaliers have rejected a Carmelo Anthony-Kevin Love trade despite the defending champs' evident need for a playmaker. New York said to have offered their nine-time NBA All-Star for the defending champs' sweet-shooting power forward but the Cavs were quick to say that they are not interested in the deal.

Just recently, CBS Sports reported that New York has approached the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers about a potential Anthony deal as Knicks president Phil Jackson is "determined to trade Anthony before February's NBA trade deadline".

The report cited The Vertical as saying that "Jackson is determined to rid the roster of Anthony and his contract, and start rebuilding around Kristaps Porzingis", but Anthony has to agree to get traded and waive his no-trade clause for any deals to take place.

However, Bleacher Report noted that the Celtics informed the Knicks that they are "not interested in acquiring" the former NBA scoring champion.

Boston has turned down the offer mainly because of salary matching. Anthony's current contract is paying him an average of $24.8 million per year and the Celtics would have to give up a significant number of "impact pieces in order for the financial side to work out in a trade", according to the report.

Another reason is that Celtics head coach Brad Stevens is implementing a system that is focused on ball movement. Adding a huge isolation-oriented player like Anthony will drastically alter the team's offense.

Boston is third in the East right now with a 27-18 record, only a half-game behind second-place team Toronto Raptors and three-and-a-half games behind the Cavs.
