English Football League One squad Scunthorpe United has turned down a $5 million offer from Chinese Super League side Henan Jianye for striker Kevin van Veen.

Henan Jianye had submitted a £4 million ($5 million) bid for van Veen in the final days of the winter transfer window, but the Iron wanted double of the said amount to let go of the Dutch goalscorer, according to Goal.

However, the Chinese Red Devils are not ready to pay $10 million for van Veen and so the deal was called-off even though the Netherlands international is said to be keen on making a transfer to the Far East.

"It's true. This is unbelievable, a once in a lifetime opportunity," said van Veen with regards to his potential China move. "I can earn so much, then I will never have to work again. It's truly a once in a lifetime opportunity."

But the move is now canceled and van Veen would have to settle for playing with the current EFL League One leaders, who are chasing promotion to the Sky Bet Championship next season, as per SkySports.

Van Veen, 25, has netted 10 times in 31 games in all competitions for the Iron this term as he continues to be a key player for the North Lincolnshire outfit. In the league, he has scored eight goals and dished out four assists so far, second in the team to league-leading scorer Josh Morris with 18 goals and nine assists.

The Eindhoven native was acquired by Scunthorpe in January of 2015 but spent last season on loan to Eerste Divisie side SC Cambuur before he was called back this year.

Henan Jianye was almost relegated to the China League One last season after finishing 13th in the 16-team China top-flight table. They were three points away from relegation at that time.

Right now, head coach Jia Xiuquan's side only has Filipino striker Javier Patino, Danish defender Eddi Gomes, and Syrian defender Ahmad Al Salih as his imports.
