Jaycee Chan Formally Arrested For Harboring Drug Users

Legendary star Jackie Chan’s son, Jaycee Chan, has been officially arrested after drug charges.
The young Chan has been formally arrested after being suspected of harboring other people to use illegal drugs, reported Star Tribune. The official arrest was released by the prosecutor’s office of Dongcheng District after receiving a request from police authorities earlier. The announcement on the arrest was also made on its verified account on microblogging site Sina Weibo.

The 31 year old actor joined other high profile celebrities’ arrest including Taiwanese movie star Ko Kai. Chinese officials have been cracking down people from the entertainment sector who have been suspected to partake in corruption, drug and sex scandal. Chinese award winning director Wang Quan’an was the most recent to have joined the list.
Jaycee was detained on August 14 with Ko Kai. The two underwent marijuana testing and were confirmed positive for using the illegal substance. Authorities found 100 grams of the illegal substance in Chan’s home. He later admitted using marijuana. Further investigations were made while waiting for the formal approval of the prosecutor’s office for Chan’s arrest.
A trial would be expected to begin after the police indict criminal charges on the actor.
Meanwhile, Ko was reported have admitted using marijuana. This led to a 14 days administrative arrest over the 23 year old Taiwanese movie star. Ko also appeared during a news conference together with his parents and apologized for using the prohibited drug.
Jackie Chan, who was held anti-drug ambassador by Chinese authorities in 2009, has publicly apologized for his son’s misdemeanor. He also said he would work with Jaycee for his rehabilitation and further recovery from substance use.
Chinese president Xi Jinping has ordered Chinese government officials to wipe out illegal drug use in the country. This has caused a lot of celebrities to be detained. The maximum sentence for those who have been arrested over suspicion of harboring others to use drugs in the workplace, hotel or any other property is at 3 years.
TV and film companies have pledged in joining the government in the move to wipe out illegal drugs and punish those who have been found guilty. These companies said they would not hire celebrities associated with drugs and ban them from making films.
