Meizu has showed off its new fast charging technology for smartphones called Super mCharge at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in Barcelona.
According to the Guangdong-based tech firm, the latest technology can charge a phone from zero to full in just 20 minutes. It has demonstrated the superfast charging capabilities during its press conference event at MWC 2017.

The charging demo was done using a USB Type-C port and a smartphone with 3000mAh battery, where Super mCharge offload some of the charging pressure off the battery to the USB cable that can carry a maximum of 160 watts of power.
“Super mCharge adopts the Charge Pump Principle, applying only two groups of conversion circuits to directly output half of the voltage. This increases charging efficiency by 9 percent to 98 percent, and ensures stable performance during charging. With Super mCharge, battery temperature tops at 102.2 degrees during charging, resulting in a safer and more reliable charging solution,” as said in the press release of Meizu.
The Super mCharge technology features reduced heat- dissipation and current and an upgraded data cable capable of supporting 160W. Meizu claims that the charging technology is safer, more secure, and energy efficient. The recharging cable reaches 98 percent efficiency. It also keeps the device cool while charging at a maximum of 39 degrees, preventing the smartphone to heat up due to fast charging.
To compare, Super mCharge of Meizu is faster than Quick Charge 4.0 of Qualcomm, which claims to charge a phone from zero to 50 percent in just 15 minutes or less. It uses a high-voltage, direct current (HVDC) electric power transmission system. The charger for this new technology is rated at 11V/5A, which means it can transfer up to 55W of power.
Meizu is not the first Chinese smartphone maker to introduce a lightning fast charging support. In MWC 2016, Oppo also introduced its Super VOOC technology, which can charge a smartphone with a 2500mAh battery in just 15 minutes.
However, the Chinese tech company did not announce when an actual device with the new technology will come out.
