Nigerian terror group Boko Haram reportedly appointed a new Emir in the town of Bama North.
Senator Ali Ndume of Borno North disclosed the coronation to the National Assembly, describing the event as an insult to Nigeria's sovereignty. He also said that Boko Haram has now gained strength since it started its insurgency in the country, Osun Defender relayed.

Back when Boko Haram first began sowing chaos, its members did not reach a hundred and they did not have high-powered weapons such as AK47s, which are only used by Nigerian security operatives. At the time, the government did not take its threat seriously and did not exert enough effort to dismantle the terrorist group.
"Recently, we reluctantly under your leadership (Mark's)... conceded to the third or fourth state of emergency," Ndume said.
If the government does not sanction the state of emergency, the insurgency in the region would become worse, the senator stated.
During the first and second declarations of a state of emergency, Nigerian soldiers held the advantage over the rebel group. But now, the soldiers are running away from their posts away from the now-powerful Boko Haram, Ndume explained.
The Gwoza-born politician believes Boko Haram's members are not more than 10,000, and the Nigerian army has 100,000 troops. However, the fewer insurgents were able to penetrate and take over Gwoza with unimaginable force, Ndume continued.
Ndume conveyed his disbelief at Boko Haram's ability to achieve what they have despite not having guns. Less than a hundred rebels could not possibly chase away 500 soldiers equipped with AK-47 and force them to abandon their area of assignment, he argued.
At the beginning of September, Boko Haram took over Bama in the state of Borno. But the Nigerian Army later on announced that they were able to resist the group and kill more than 50 of its members, 360 Nobs reported.
Although the Federal Government declared a state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, deadly attacks still beset the said areas, according to the report.
