Only three months following Microsoft's doubled free storage tier from 7 GB to 15 GB, it's willing to double its storage space for free again.

But this time, users should be quick to act. Since iOS 8 needs 5 GB-plus of hard drive space, a lot of iPhone users were forced to delete media and apps to upgrade.

Microsoft took advantage of this and announced it will double OneDrive owners' free storage capacity to a 30 GB if they enable the option to back up their phones pictures automatically to OneDrive before September ends.

Notably, iCloud offers 5 GB of free storage.

Apple rolled out iOS 8 for iPad, iPhone and iTouch. The update is 4.6 GB big and needs a lot of space on devices to install.

It could go from 5.7 GB to 7 GB on an iPad. It varies on devices but still takes up bigger free space compared to previous operating systems. Those with only 16 GB of storage are likely to encounter issues.

From increasing upload limit from 2 GB to 10 GB for single files, Microsoft doubles OneDrive space effective immediately.

It's an advantageous marketing campaign to increase OneDrive capacity for Apple devices because Apple users will find it easier to upgrade their devices to iOS 8. It's also not limited to Apple devices.

Users of Windows Phone, Android and Windows can avail of the offer, as well, but they need to enable camera backup before September ends so its capacity can increase from 3 GB to 15 GB and double it to 30 GB.

Under the OneDrive app Settings section, find the Charms Bar > Settings > Change PC Settings > OneDrive > Camera roll on a Windows 8.1 device.
