Bay Area-based startup company, Arubixs, has developed Portal, a phablet with a flexible screen that can be worn on a user's forearm.

The device slides into a dual-strap arm cradle that extends from one's wrist to halfway up the forearm.

Flexible displays, which have been around for years, have been showcased at various CES events but never marketed. The Portal is one of, if not the only, smartphone built around flexible screen technology.

The startup firm said the handset's thin-film transistor display isn't only flexible, but water-resistant, scratch-resistant, shatterproof and reinforced by a Kevlar exterior.

The phablet is equipped with two gigabytes of RAM, 64 gigs of built-in memory, Bluetooth Near Field Communication, LTE, wireless charging capabilities, a proprietary 3,200 milliampere hour flexible battery, a total of four cameras and a full suite of sensors.

The Portal will run a skinned version of Android, and responds to motion-based, touch and gesture commands.

As of the moment, there are no details regarding the device's processor and graphics processing unit.

Those interested members can go to the Portal's Indiegogo campaign and claim a device for US$349.

Arubixs also said it's working on a smaller, 4-inch model of that will be available next year.

While Arubixs is attempting to break into the wearable tech market with their first entry, an established entity in the industry had details of its alleged new smartwatch leaked.

Anticipated features on the Samsung Galaxy Gear include a fingerprint scanner that will enable the device to secure payments from the wearable.

Balances and transactions via the smartwatch can be checked through text. This capability could potentially mean Samsung's next smartwatch will have its own network connectivity.
