Amidst news that Malcolm Young is suffering from dementia and will no longer be able to perform, his nephew, Stevie Young, will be replacing him during AC/DC's upcoming world tour.

Michael Browning, the band's former manager, as well as the Young family has confirmed the news.

Malcolm Young has reportedly been brought to a nursing home in his native Sydney and has consequently pulled out of all performances and band activities so he may be able to get the proper care he needs.

Young currently resides in Lulworth House in Elizabeth Bay in Sydney which specializes in full-time care for people with dementia.

"I think it (Young's illness) came on very suddenly... It's shocking. It's terrible. Sadly for AC/DC, they're losing their creator, their mentor. He's the genius behind the band," Browning shared.

Last April, Young took a break from the band citing health concerns. At that time, his family and fellow bandmates did not disclose his condition.

As months progressed, Young's condition worsened to the point that he could no longer continue on with the band.

Young could also no longer participate in the band's new album, "Rock Or Bust". Stevie also took on his role for the said album.

An insider shared that Young's memory had declined significantly, sharing, ""If you were in the room with [Malcolm Young] and walked out then came back in one minute later he wouldn't remember who you are. He has a complete loss of short term memory."

His condition prompted his wife Linda to place the ailing rockstar in full-time care.

Members of AC/DC, particularly Malcolm Young, are considered to be the pioneers of heavy metal music.

The band, the brainchild of Malcolm and Angus Young, was formed in 1973 and has since then sold over 200 million records around the world.
