In a radio interview, singer Jason Derulo admitted that he broke up with "American Idol" alum Jordin Sparks over the phone because he wasn't in town at the time he wanted to end their three-year relationship.

Derulo, who had written his song "Marry Me" for Sparks, also reiterated that his decision to end the relationship wasn't because he had found someone else.

"Every relationship has their ups and downs and you know, when you start having more downs than ups, you gotta take a look at your relationship and be like, 'Is this something that I'm supposed to be doing?'" the "Riding Solo" singer shared.

Their split wasn't caused by problems in the bedroom either, according to the 25-year old singer. Derulo stated that their sex life was "fine".

However, 30-year old model Carmen Ortega claims that Derulo had a relationship with her during the time the singer was still with Sparks.

"We dated for a month. We went out in public with friends a few times, so I assumed he didn't have a girlfriend," Ortega shared.

However, when she found out that he will still with Sparks during their relationship, she immediately broke off ties with the singer.

Sparks, on the other hand, remains mum about what she feels caused the end of their relationship and, instead has chosen to look at the positive side of the break-up.

When asked by Hoda Kotb and Kathie Gifford if Derulo had cheated on her, Sparks replied that she would rather not comment on that issue. Commenting on the BMW that Derulo had given her as a gift, the singer stated, "he can have it."

Sparks shared that she is doing well, sharing, ".I read this quote [yesterday], and it said, 'When something unexpected happens in your life, or you think something bad happens, just say 'Plot twist!' and move on.'"
