Julia Pierson resigned as Security Service director Wednesday amid yet another security lapse involving an armed person riding the elevator with President Barack Obama on September 16.
The day before, lawmakers pressed the embattled security service chief regarding the controversial fence jumper Omar Gonzales who darted deep into the executive mansion on September 19.

Shocking details of the incident surfaced only after the House panel examined Pierson.
To the surprise of lawmakers who were outraged for the attempt at misleading the public, it was revealed that Gonzales was armed when he was tackled by an off-duty counterassault agent who was just about to leave for home.
Gonzales made it as far as the Green Room, contrary to initial reports saying he was apprehended at the main entrance.
But it was not the final straw that forced Pierson into resignation. It was her answer to whether the Omar Gonzales incident was the only security breach around the president over the last year. Pierson claimed it was.
It was not.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Washington Post and the Washington Examiner broke with the news of another embarrassing security lapse that happened over two weeks ago at CDC in Atlanta. It involved an armed security contractor who has three battery and assault convictions to his name. He was reportedly armed as he shared an elevator ride with the president.
This apparently undermined the Obama's confidence in the director. On Wednesday afternoon, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson accepted Pierson's resignation barely 18 months after her appointment by the president.
In an interview with Bloomberg News, Pierson expressed pain over her resignation, but indicated it was the "noble" thing to do even as the agency reels from a major security lapse.
In a statement, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest confirmed the president did not know of the elevator breach until just moments before it was reported in the news.
Pierson insisted during Tuesday's House hearing that she met with the president last week to brief him with security breaches.
