Western-style democracy is not for all countries.
This was the gist of a recent article written in a Communist Party Journal amid the week-long pro-democracy protests happening in Hong Kong.
The Journal said replicating the Western style of governance in China will only spell "disaster" as shown by the non-stop turmoil and violence in several countries, such as Egypt, Libya, Iraq, and Afghanistan, which have tried to adopt the same system of government.

Qiushi said the West has the tendency to boast of their own form of democratic government as a "universal value" that should be followed by most countries. They believed that there is no other form of democracy except the one that their country is exercising.
"Western democracy has innate internal flaws and certainly is not a 'universal value'; its blind copying can only lead to disaster," Qiushi added.
Chinese state-media and other information channels in the past have criticized and launched massive attacks on Western form of democracy saying that this did not work for them. China said the country's own form of government, "socialism with Chinese characteristics", is the best and only way to govern the world's most populous nation.
Chinese authorities have hoped that the new government under President Xi Jinping would exercise more tolerance on calls for reforms, but must not back down when his government is challenged.
The past week had seen tens of thousands of student leaders protesting in the streets of Hong Kong, calling for the resignation of its leader Leung Chun-ying, and demanding that China give Hong Kong people the right to choose a leader of their own in the 2017 elections.
The rallies have turned violent with police officers using tear gas, baton, and pepper spray to resist the protesters last Sunday.
Reports said informal talks between the Hong Kong leadership and the student-protesters took place last Monday and will resume on Tuesday. These informal talks will reportedly pave the way for the start of formal talks scheduled this week.
