Shanghai Disney to Feature the First Pirate-themed Park

Shanghai Disney, the first Disney park in mainland China, will present the first pirate-themed park in the Disney World, featuring scenes and characters from the movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean", Shanghai Disney Resort announced in Shanghai on Wednesday.

The pirate-themed park, named "Treasure Cove," is the first of six theme parks in the Magic Kingdom of Shanghai Disney as well as an exclusive theme park for Shanghai Disney. A major attraction at the Treasure Cove will be "Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle of the Sunken Treasure."

Wednesday also marks the completion of the key structural work on the Pirates attraction, marking a new and important milestone in Shanghai Disney Resort's development.

"'Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle of the Sunken Treasure' will give visitors a unique experience that they could have only in Shanghai Disney Resort," said Mike Crawford, General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort.

Visitors will be enlisted to travel with Captain Jack Sparrow on an epic journey to find Captain Davy Jones' treasure. With new effects and advanced technologies, visitors will be led to the depth of sea and will pass through pirate ship, watch a strong and great sea battle as well as ride through wind and waves at sea.

"We are excited to see the Disney Imagineering team continue to bring the most advanced technologies and construction techniques to China, working collaboratively with local talents, in building this modern and innovative park," said Fan Xiping, chairman of Shanghai Shendi Group, Disney's Chinese joint venture partner in Shanghai Disney Resort.

Shanghai Disney Resort, located in Pudong New District, began construction in April 2011. The resort is scheduled to open at the end of next year.
