Nine years of marriage and numerous public attempts by Robin Thicke to patch up that union, Paula Patton filed for divorce, it was reported Thursday.
Patton cited irreconcilable differences as she filed although she told tabloids the divorce was amicable. She also asked for joint custody of the couple's 4-year-old son, and only child, Julian Fuego Thicke.

"Blurred Lines" and "Get Her Back" aside, Thicke and Patton first revealed all was not right with their marriage in February. Court documents released this week said they decided to separate on Feb. 21.
Upon separation, they issued a joint announcement saying they would always love each other, but would be best off as best friends. The separation was deemed mutual by the celebrity singing couple.
The last public appearance together by a seemingly blissful couple was at the Grammy Awards on January 25. Patton attracted eyeballs with a breathtaking dress marked by zebra stripes. They smiled for the cameras as they posed together.
Thicke, 37, then waged, obviously now to no avail, a very public campaign to win back the heart of Patton, 38. He put out "Get Her Back" with a premier performance at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. He named his seventh album "Paula" for his wife. Dropping in July, the album also dropped on the charts with poor sales.
Nevertheless, Thicke kept winging it as he tried to get Patton back. He went on talk shows and did media interviews asking her to come back to him. He told "Good Morning America" he didn't have a specific plan and was just "kinda flying by the seats of my pants" in his quest.
Meanwhile, Patton appears to have moved in with her personal life. Tabloids reported her new boyfriend Zak Waters had moved in with her at a Calabasas home. A Patton friend said they were very happy together and Waters was treating her right. As for Thicke, stay tuned.
