Hong Kong police officers dispersed protesters from a barricaded tunnel located outside the city government's headquarters on Wednesday to prevent escalation of demonstrations of pro-democracy supporters.
The clearing of the tunnels came after officials in Beijing expressed their eagerness to end the protests that have been ongoing for the past couple of weeks now.

Officers who dispersed the protesters wore riot gears and wielded pepper sprays, while they tore down the barricades and the concrete slabs of the tunnel.
The protesters blocked the tunnel and expanded their protest zone after police officers dispersed them earlier from other streets. The activists reportedly used tires, metal barricades and water-filled safety barriers for the said blockage.
The officers were outnumbered and did not succeed in the first attempt, but returned after a several hours with reinfrocements. It has been shown on a live footage and was broadcasts by a local television station.
The footage showed what happened during the said operation and after the officers were successful to have moved them out of the tunnel. Officers took away many protesters as protesters were shown tied with plastic handcuffs.
This is already the third week of the said protests as the activists continue to accuse Beijing of "false universal suffrage" after Chinese officials have taken back their statement that Hong Kong can choose their own candidates for the 2017 elections.
The continuous demonstrations show the disagreement of the protesters, led by students, with the power of the Communist Party in China over the government of Hong Kong.
The protesters are also pressuring the officials to let Hong Kong's Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying to step down from his position as he has been picked by Beijing. They are also asking the government of Hong Kong to drop their plans that has been announced recently about having a pro-Beijing committee that will oversee the screening of the candidates for the upcoming elections.
The protests is said to be a first and that it continues to challenge the government as the numbers of protesters continue to increase.
