Chinese Web Services Company Baidu, Inc. recently launched a new wireless upper-arm blood pressure monitoring device dubbed the Mumu BP2.

The Mumu BP2 lets users monitor systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and heart rate, via a smartphone app.

Baidu will begin shipping the devices on Nov. 8, although it is now available for pre-order in China and costs only 399 yuan (US$65).

Baidu reportedly developed the blood pressure monitor in partnership with Guangzhou-based medical supplies company Mumu Health Technology Co. Ltd.

The new device comes two weeks after Xiaomi released its own blood pressure monitoring device called the iHealth. Xiaomi partnered with Silicon Valley-based medical device maker iHealth Labs Inc. to develop the iHealth.

Unlike Xiaomi's iHealth, Mumu BP2 doesn't come with a corded phone dock. It's an armlet that connects wirelessly using Bluetooth connectivity and is powered by an 800mAh Polymer rechargeable battery.

Baidu developed the device to make it simple and user-friendly as far as possible. It has one button for turning it on or off, and a second one for Bluetooth connectivity. It also works with Bluetooth 2.1.

Mumu BP2 comes with an app that lets users monitor real live data and record the results on the company's cloud platform. The app is compatible with Android and iOS devices.

Like Xiaomi, it's the first health-related device released by Baidu.

Chinese technology companies are apparently moving into the healthcare-related technology industry with emphasis on connecting medical devices for the "Internet of Things".

The Internet of Things is a broad term that encompasses home and industry devices connected to the internet.
