After having kept her distance from best friend Selena Gomez in the past due to the "Come and Get It" singer's choice to keep on seeing pop brat Justin Bieber, singer Taylor Swift has once again rushed to Gomez's side following her split from Bieber.

The two rekindled their friendship a few months ago despite Gomez's choice to date Bieber again.

However, unlike in the past wherein Swift was pushy about her disdain for Bieber, she offered her friend some heartfelt guidance instead.

According to a source, ''She [Taylor] wants her to, at least try taking a year off dating. She thinks she should date herself for a while, take the time to get to know herself and appreciate herself."

Swift intends to lead by example, instead of forcing Gomez to see things the way she does.

Last week, Bieber and Gomez were spotted arguing at the St. Maarten airport, reportedly over the fact that Bieber has not proposed marriage.

Gomez was reportedly expecting that the singer was going to propose during their trip. After Bieber failed to do so, Gomez was said to have been extremely disappointed and that when he expressed her feelings to Bieber about it, "he flipped out".

An insider revealed that Gomez had taken Bieber back because he told her that he was already shopping for an engagement ring for her. Gomez, who wants the security and stability of marriage, is said to be extremely upset that he only led her to believe that he was ready for the next step.

As of now, Gomez has moved out of her parents' home to live in a home in California she shares with one of her best friends.

Swift, who resides in New York, has been persistently urging Gomez to move to New York as well, because she said that she herself has become a more mature person living in the said city.
