An Indiana man named Darren Deon Vann has been accused of killing several women after his latest victim was found in a hotel room and authorities said that the killer met his victim through an online advertising site called Backpage.com.
Bakcpage.com is said to be a website where thousands of ads are posted daily as members offer sex in exchange for money, says Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart. Afrikika Hardy, the victim, was said to be a 19-year-old woman who posted her ad and Vann responded to it.

Dart noted that Backpage has become a leader in facilitating prostitution in the area. However, Backpage is protected by the communications decency act meaning online sites cannot being sued by the content posted on their sites.
Indiana Senator Mark Kirk released a statement about the situation stating that they want to take down Backpage along with other attorney generals from the 49 states but there have been no recent reports about the progress of the fight against the website.
Kirk has also introduced a legislation that makes it illegal to sell sex via trade advertising and, according to reports, the legislation is now in committee and a similar bill has already been passed by the house.
The website is also being sued by three teenagers who claim they were trafficked through the site and the case is now being heard by the Washington State Supreme Court.
Hardy was one of the seven women that were said to be Vann's victims and reportedly all of them were sex workers. Police have stated that Vann killed her during a "rough sex" session in a motel room located in Hammond, Indiana.
Vann was charged on Monday but continues to cooperate with police in hopes of being presented with a deal with his prosecution.
