Google Unveils 'Inbox' For Mail, Calendar, Tasks

Earlier today rumors were swirling about Bigtop, a new way to use Gmail. Apparently Google (GOOG) has had enough of this and has officially announced the new service - simply called Inbox.

Inbox is more than a revamp to Gmail It sorts emails automatically, pushes more important things to the top, understands location, time and is capable of pulling all sorts of reminders.

Google's Gmail team has been working on Inbox for a few years now, with various iterations of the service going through testing. Originally, the team wanted to create a new version of Gmail, but it ended up being a more inclusive version to go alongside the old Gmail client.

Inbox offers bundled messages, allowing users to quickly browse through all receipts, press mails or YouTube comments in one quick swipe. Gmail will use its own systems to group messages, which it has been testing for more than a year in the old Gmail client.

Highlights will allow the user to see important information at the top of the screen. Inbox will take importance from time, location or recipient. The most important mails and tasks will be focused at the top and Inbox will continue to refresh this feed.

Reminders allow the user to set reminders to themselves (instead of sending emails or adding notes) and getting them back at suitable times. Users will be able to pin emails and tasks to their email feed, for quick reference on today's tasks.

It like a mix between a revamped Gmail interface, Google Now cards, reminders and snooze buttons. Inbox is an interesting upcoming service and Google will be pushing the service out to people who want it first - on an invite system.

iOS, Android and Web users will be able to test it out.
